Debbie Schoone

Debbie Schoone (NL, b. 1994) ︎︎︎ is an image maker whose work explores the influence of man on our environment and our surroundings. With her work she questions our changing relationship with nature and asks the question: is it wrong that our connection is slowly disappearing?

Currently, issues related to our environment are so vast and abstract that it is difficult for us to comprehend, a distance arises to this subject. For Debbie, photography is a way to visualize her fascination and wonder for innovation in the field of our environment and sustainability, and to make it more accessible to others. In her visual research, she therefore highlights different visions, such as growing food in an alternative way or developing new materials.

She combines her documentary photography with staged images and archive material. Using these different approaches, her work is a great visual exploration of the subject, in which her own interpretation comes first. By showing these discoveries in an installation, she bridges the distance from the viewer to the subject.
